Maui A to Z

Maui A to Z: Wailea

Wide photo of Maui Beach

Wailea is the south shore’s version of the west side’s Ka’anapali.  Most people who live on Maui don’t spend much time in either area unless they work there.  Businesses in Wailea and Ka’anapali are priced for the “I’m on vacation, why not splurge a Little” crowd.  We sometimes try to find some beach parking and check out the waves near the big resorts, but most of the time the parking lots are crowded, and every year there are more resort umbrellas that pop up on the sand.

There are other beaches with almost no traffic.  We stick with those 99% of the time.

The one thing that I do try to do in Wailea at least once or twice a week is the Wailea walking path.  This is a trail that runs along the beach side of the larger resorts from Keawakapu Beach to Polo Beach.  It’s beautiful and a paved area where you don’t have to worry about vehicular traffic.  Along the trail, you’ll often see a space set up for a sunset wedding,

or a private beach dinner prepared for friends.

If you don’t want to find a private chef, Sarento’s on the Beach is near the end of this trail.  You can have a great meal, and catch a breath-taking sunset.
